Youth Dragon Football

There are three types of youth football...

1) Tackle Football - This is for 5th - 6th graders.  5th and 6th grade tackle football will start Tuesday August 25th, 2009 with an orientation meeting at 5:30 pm in the High School Little Theatre for all parents/guardians and participants. During the meeting you will hear expectations and pick up schedules. Students will work on football skills, sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play. Anyone new to the padded football program will need to purchase football pants with pads. All other equipment such as helmet, mouth guard, and shoulder pads will be provided. Most weeks will include one practice and one game or scrimmage on Tuesdays, and Thursdays or Saturdays. Practices will be held at the high school practice fields and/or other available spaces. Fee is $37.00.   Register at Litchfield Community Education.

2) Passing Dragons - This is for 4th - 6th graders.  Camp focuses on football fundamentals and those fundamentals are coached by varsity coaches, players and parent volunteers.  Learn the basic football skills of kicking, punting, passing, catching and blocking. Participants will practice skills and play games of touch football. Note: 5th and 6th graders who are in tackle football league are encouraged to attend both programs. Fourth graders are eligible for Passing Dragons. Passing Dragons will begin on Thursday September 10th, at 5:45 p.m. Meeting dates will be Thursday September 10th, Monday September 14th, Monday September 21st and Monday September 28th. Fee is $25.00 Register at Litchfield Community Education.

3) Rookies Football - This is for 1st-3rd graders.   This program is designed to provide students with the basic understanding of the game of football. Students will develop the following fundamental skills: throwing, catching, running, kicking and punting. Offensive and defensive plays will also be learned. These skills will be combined to compete in seven on seven competitions. This will be a no contact league. Students are asked to bring their own football so please have balls labeled with student's name. Any type of ball is appropriate, given age and hand size, kids should have a ball that they can hold and throw with ease. These can be mini leather balls, rubber balls, nurf balls, etc... Extra balls will be available if needed. Fee will be $23.00.  Register at Litchfield Community Education.

 Litchfield Youth Football Vision

Coaches will consist of parents and selected community volunteers.

The vision of this program is for all the participants to experience youth football in a positive, safe environment. We sincerely want children to enjoy their experience and learn how to play the game with the fundamentals of our teaching. We also ask that participants and parents give effort as well towards having an enjoyable and safe experience.

We have six expectations of our parents and participants. They are:

1)  Respect all players, coaches, and officials.

2)  Look for the good in all situations.

3)  Think of others before yourself.  Football is a TEAM sport and will always be a sport based on team rather then the individual.

4)  Understand the big picture of “Youth Football.”  To experience the game.

5Recognize that a player or participant may not always have a good or enjoyable time every night. We hope that all participants enjoy every night, but we also know that this is probably not possible. Parents, we ask that if your child has a “tuff” night that you take this moment and use it to teach the qualities of persistence and also point out that judging an experience over a duration of time is the only approach to good decision making.

6)  Respect the effort of those working in the program.  In the game of football there are many approaches to the game.  You may not always agree with the approach but realize that the coach is trying his best to teach your child in the best way they know how.  We believe the best thing we can all do is to support their efforts.  In the long hall it will be best for the child and all who are involved.
